Hit-Run Driver Killed Person In Wheelchair In MD, Police Say

Police in Prince George’s County are seeking the public’s assistance after a pedestrian in a wheelchair was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver over the weekend.

An alert was issued by the Prince George’s County Police Department this week following an incident on Saturday morning that left a pedestrian dead in Hyattsville and a driver at large.

Officers were called at approximately 3:20 a.m. on Saturday, June 17 to the area of University Boulevard and Riggs Road to investigate a crash.

According to investigators, the driver struck the pedestrian, who was a wheelchair user, in the roadway, then fled the scene in what is believed to be a silver Volkswagen. The victim - whose name has not been released - was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
